Sichuan province is one of the biggest provinces in China, covering an area of 485000sqkm.It possesses beautiful rivers and mountains as well as a rich diversity of plants and animals. Presently, 5 sites in 4 areas, which include Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong, Wolong and Mt. Emei are inscribed in the Man and the Biosphere Preservation Network and the UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage Lists. In addition, Sichuan has 9 national scenery areas,11 national forest parks and 50 national reserves. Of particular interest is Sichuan's western region which is the transition area between the Sichuan Basin in the east and the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau in the west. It abounds with lofty snow-capped peaks, rivers and alpine forests. An old saying states that " four seasons can be found on one mountain, as the weather can vary within five kilometers". 85% of the world's endangered Giant Pandas are found here the "Home of the Giant Panda". Because of its well preserved ecological environment. It is a haven for eco-toursim.

With the improvement of transportation and communication in recent years, Sichuan's toursim industry has developed rapidly. Accommodation conditions have also improved. During the 99' China Eco-tourism Year, Sichuan is planning to host various tourist activities, including hiking, mountain climing, trekking, rafting, skiing and cultural activities suh as festivals including the flower fair, wine fair.
